The stock filter on the '03/04 6.0L PowerStroke is housed in a plastic canister that is molded over the filter element. When Replacing your stock filter Both the housing and filter element are thrown away when the filter is changed. It definitely looks expensive to replace.

At AFE the challenge was designing a way to house their washable/reusable filter when the stock housing is thrown away with the stock filter. The result is a powder-coated sheet metal canister with all the tabs, latches and mounting brackets needed to install the AFE filter and canister back between the stock intake scoop and tubing. 4-ply medical-grade cotton gauze filter element with deep pleats and precision open-pleat geometry insures proper filtration without sacrificing airflow. The 360° degree radial air filter improves airflow over stock for more horsepower, improved throttle response, lower EGT and better fuel mileage. The 100%urethane construction ensures a tight seal and long-term durability. With the metal canister, the replacement air filter can be taken out, cleaned, re-oiled and put back into service time and time again. This AFE filter kit will be the last filter you will need .
